Back-to-the-Camera Shot

A long with an epic sound track and a gutsy background, having the subjects back to the camera can inspire a seriously gritty and bold shot. It's amazing to realise how popular this shot is and how often its used in most films. Usually placing the subject in the centre of the camera, A major imporance of getting the character to seem like he is really infront of any scenery depends on how he is lit in front of the green screen. I see this angle to help emphasise the role of the character in comparison to his legacy, to the scenery, and his modesty.

For example, in Thank You For Smoking, we are introduced to the main character. Nick Naylor, who is played by Aaron Eckhart is hated from the moment he is shown on screen. We are emphasised his battle versus the people who are against smoking on a live TV show, where he is sitting down on stage ready to answer questions from a hostile atmosphere and due to the shots it's almost as if we are on stage with him.
