Gambling film location scouting 3: Exterior

looking at some exterior locations where i could shoot the poker scene. Ultimately, it is too cold, probably lots of rain, very limited plug holes, if any. Plus there is no bar in any rooms, so unless i made one, it is not possible for my actor to go up to the bar.

Hyde Park Picture House in Hyde Park Leeds.

I live down the road from the Picture House and I volunteer there. There is a back door down the dark side road that quite underground looking. We have chosen this location to shoot the opening scene, as if our poker game was going on in this building. We are not using the cinema at all so i don't want to give a false accusation to the audience watching the film that we are in the Picture House. As i volunteer here it will be possible for me to ask to use the side of the building.

Gambling film Location scouting 2: The bathroom

The type of bathroom i had in mind for the gamblers film scene where Alex is having his anxiety attack was a cold dark eerie bathroom, similar to that in The Machinist.

I posted a status on my facebook in search for a bathroom in Leeds that i would be able to film at that looked similar to this. A friend of mine suggested her bathroom, so i went to have a look and take a few photos to send to Effi to get his thoughts if he likes the bathroom. I need to buy a new light bulb as the current one hasn't worked for two months.

I want a very cold and dark contrast color so i will change the white balance to a bluey white daylight balance feel.

I have applied for volunteering at Sundance film festival in London at the  end of April.

I am fully aware that I could have tons of work around that period, however, working for Sundance and putting that on my CV is extremely beneficial and gives me that extra foot in the door for when i finish uni.

Gambling film location scouting: interior - Northern Snooker Centre

Because i was looking at venues with low key ligthing, the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds was a venue i was interested in. I realised after scouting it that there was't a private room next to a bar which is what we needed in the location because of the scene with the girls at a bar. There is a table lowered in the ground in the centre of the venue that would be unbelievable to film a poker scene in but i would imagine it would be too much hassle asking for the table to be moved for a poker table. Fortunately, i don't think they would have said yes to me asking for permission to film there.
